Elden Ring Starting Class Calculator & Optimizer

Choose eight target attributes to calculate the lowest-level starting class for your build. Compare all 10 original starting class stats first; two extra-content origins are optional, not enabled by default. The best points allocation is not necessarily the best starting gear.

Set your minimum target stats

A class starts with its original stats; values below those stats cannot be removed. Extra required points determine the lowest possible level.

These are different goals. Rune totals start at each class's own starting level and include only level-up costs—not equipment, runes already owned, farming time or respec costs.

Elden Ring starting class stats: all 10 original classes

Compare every starting level and all eight attributes directly, even with JavaScript off. Starting class affects the minimum level needed to reach a target spread; it does not decide your best weapon or playstyle. The source starting stats below come from the same class data used in the optimizer above. Choose Compare stats to try that class’s original stats as a target without creating a new search URL.

Two further origins are optional and are not included in this base-game table: Idus Knight (level 7) and Heavy Knight (level 10). Turn on the separate extra-content checkbox above only if your edition includes them. This table is sourced community game data, not new client-captured Regulation 1.17.3 proof.

The table is readable without scripts; buttons are optional interactive shortcuts.

After finding your lowest-level origin, allocate its eight attributes in the Build Calculator and calculate its rune costs. Source details: Eldenpedia Origins.

Best starting class by level versus runes

A lowest-final-level class and a fewest-runes-from-a-fresh-start class can be different. The former saves character levels; the latter minimizes only the incremental level-up runes paid from each origin’s actual starting level. Neither judges starting equipment or combat effectiveness. Select an example to use its eight minimum attributes in the interactive comparison above.

Why the best origin changes

The lowest ending Rune Level and the fewest runes spent from a fresh starting class are not the same question. A class that begins at a higher level may spend fewer level-up runes even when it ends at a higher level. Choose the goal that matches your use case; neither result ranks the starting equipment.

Different origins begin with different stats. The optimizer computes the level required to meet your minimum attribute requirements, rather than assuming every class starts at level one. It does not make claims about the “best” weapon or playstyle.

The two Tarnished Pack starting classes are separate paid content on most platforms and are optional in this tool. Their starting attribute vectors match the independently published Origins table; this comparison is a public reference cross-check, not an original game-client capture.

Method

Origin comparison

The optimizer assumes only starting stats and level allocations, and intentionally does not rank survivability, equipment, gameplay comfort or spells.

Results are computed in your browser. See our calculation methods and verification status for data limitations.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Does the lowest-level class always play better?

No. Lowest level is a mathematical measure of points spent; starting weapons, class availability and playstyle may matter more.

Does the rune comparison include the runes I currently have?

No. It compares a fresh character from each origin. For your existing rune inventory and current level, use the level and rune calculator.

Should I include extra-content classes?

Only select the extra-content option if your game edition includes those classes.

Worked example · minimum points

What if your target is 15 Vigor and 10 in all other stats?

The base-game Wretch starts at level 1 with 10 in each of the eight attributes. Raising Vigor from 10 to 15 costs five attribute points, so that target reaches level 6 from Wretch. The optimizer evaluates every enabled origin the same way: start at the class's actual level, then add only the positive gaps between its starting stats and your targets.

The lowest mathematical level does not prove the best starting equipment or easiest playstyle. Leave optional extra-content origins off unless your edition includes them. Once you choose an origin, open the Build Planner to distribute attributes, then check runes per level and total costs needed to level up.
